For those who want to see this spring’s buzziest action movie, Furious 7, but have never seen the first six, The Verge’s new 10-minute recap does a pretty fantastic job of summing up all the messy plot details you probably don’t need to know in order to enjoy a movie about cars driving fast. But then again, the franchise’s mythology is actually surprisingly confusing. For instance, this latest film technically follows the events of The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift, the third film in the franchise, which theoretically takes place after the events of the sixth film.
Basically all you need to know about Furious 7 is that the Vin Diesel/Paul Walker drag racing crew are dealing with baddie Jason Statham who killed their friend (a character literally named Han Seoul-Oh) in a film that was released in 2006, but theoretically took place in the 2010s.
