Alyson Hannigan has entered the “TV Land star” portion of her career

After starring on one of the most groundbreaking TV shows of the 1990s-2000s, and one of the most successful sitcoms of the 2000s-2010s, actress Alyson Hannigan is apparently ready to settle into the “TV Land star” portion of her career. Deadline is reporting that Hannigan has signed on for the cast of The First Wives Club, a TV reboot of the 1996 Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, and Goldie Hawn vehicle. She’ll co-star with Smash star Megan Hilty, who’ll be joining her in the comfortable semi-retirement of a TV Land sitcom.

The new version of The First Wives Club is being created by Sex And The City writer Jenny Bicks and Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel producer/perpetrator Karen Rosenfelt. The series will star Hannigan as an English professor shaken out of her comfortable life by the death of a friend, and Hilty as an actress struggling with the perception that she’s “aged out” of Hollywood at age 35. But hey, Hilty’s character could always try for a gig at TV Land, which is apparently the only network on TV that doesn’t try to pretend that women over the age of 30 are unmarketable skeletons, fit only for comedic rapping and making people uncomfortable about sex.
