It’s been a minute since The Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder had a show on TV; his most recent effort, Adult Swim’s Black Jesus, last aired new episodes in 2015. Now, Deadline reports that McGruder is teaming up with Amazon for a series set in an alternate universe (which is apparently just sort of Amazon’s thing, these days).
McGruder is developing the series with producer Will Packer, who helped bring Ride Along and Straight Outta Compton into theaters. Details on the project are being kept under wraps, but given that McGruder’s previous dabblings in alternate realities produced the Peabody-winning Boondocks episode “Return Of The King”—in which Martin Luther King, Jr. survives his assassination attempt and awakens from a coma in the middle of the second Bush presidency—it’s enough to leave us with our fingers crossed for what the series might achieve.
