Amazon launches comic-book imprint with adaptations of George R. R. Martin, Neal Stephenson
Adding to a publishing empire that recently celebrated its first million-selling hit, Amazon has announced the launch of its comic-book imprint, Jet City Comics. And it’s doing so with a bang—although one fueled by prose authors. Graphic novels based on bestselling works by George R. R. Martin, Neal Stephenson, and Hugh Howey will form the foundation of Jet City’s line.
In particular, the Martin-derived comics are being touted as flagships of the Jet City line. His previously published graphic-novel adaptation of “The Hedge Knight”—a short story that serve as prequels to A Song Of Ice And Fire—will be reprinted, as well as a new adaptation of “The Sworn Sword,” the follow-up to “The Hedge Knight.” Also to be published in 2013 is the comics version of Martin’s harrowing short story, “Meathouse Man.” No word yet on whether a reprint of DC Comics’ out-of-print adaptation of Martin’s “Sandkings” is on the horizon.
