Amazon orders kids’ series from nerd favorites Studio Ghibli and Gillian Anderson
Amazon announced today that it has ordered a 26-part kids series from Studio Ghibli featuring narration from one Dana Scully—excuse us, Gillian Anderson. The show, Ronja The Robber’s Daughter, is directed by Gorō Miyazaki, the son of acclaimed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, and adapted from a Swedish book by Pippi Longstocking’s Astrid Lindgren. It’s described as the “story of a strong, adventurous young girl who grows up exploring a beautiful and dangerous forest filled with mythical creatures,” which sounds like a perfectly lovely and wondrous thing to binge-watch. Mind you, this isn’t the first time Anderson has worked with Studio Ghibli: She voiced the character Moro in the English version of Princess Mononoke.
The streaming service also gave the go ahead to Little Big Awesome, a children’s comedy which apparently utilizes “2D animation, puppetry, and real live action footage” to tell its take of a “jelly giant” named Gluko and his friend Lennon. Trippy.
