Amazon Prime to stream Sex And The City in its entirety
Although Sex And The City has been off the air since 2004, it lives on in syndication and two regrettable movies (and think pieces on its successor du jour). But let’s face it, the basic cable editing has rendered the racier jokes nearly indecipherable and severely cut down on Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) screen time. Luckily, Amazon is set to restore the sexcapades to their full premium-cable glory, as it’s just bought the rights to stream all six seasons.
As of Wednesday, all 94 episodes of Sex And The City are available to Amazon Prime members. HBO Now and HBO Go subscribers will also have access to all of Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) puns, Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) legalese, Charlotte’s (Kristen Davis) WASPiness, and of course, Samantha’s PR relations. So get ready to revisit a whole lot of Mr. Wrongs, a few Mr. Rights, and Chris Noth’s Mr. Big. You might also be reminded of just how unrealistic the show’s portrayal of New York City was, but who cares because remember all of the pretty shoes?
The addition of Sex And The City to Amazon’s streaming lineup is part of a deal between HBO and the e-commerce giant. Amazon Prime also has exclusive SVOD rights to full seasons of series like The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, and Six Feet Under, among many others. Amazon did have to wait for the E! network’s exclusive deal with HBO to expire before securing the rights to Sex And The City, and it similarly swooped in to nab the rights to Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
