Amazon renews Mozart In The Jungle for more hot oboe action
Throwing yet another lifeline to all the oboe players out there who’ve been desperately trying to convince their friends that orchestra life is a cool, quirky, cutthroat business, Amazon has announced that it’s renewing its award-winning Mozart In The Jungle for a third season. The series—which stars Gael García Bernal as the eccentric, stick-in-the-mud-defying Robin Williams of professional orchestra conduction— is produced by Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman, and American Pie director Phil Weitz, and last aired new episodes back in December.
Mozart cleaned up at this year’s Golden Globes, winning both Best Television Series—Musical Or Comedy, and a Best Performance award for Bernal. (Both star and series beat out last year’s winners, Amazon’s own Jeffrey Tambor and Transparent.) Meanwhile, there’s no word yet when Mozart—which also stars Lola Kirke, Malcolm McDowell, and Bernadette Peters—will be returning for these just-announced new episodes, or whether its cast and crew will finally complete their secret mission of making passionate woodwindery seem cool.
