Amazon renews Transparent for a third season

Season two of Transparent only recently started production, but Amazon has already greenlit a third season for the ensemble comedy, set to release in 2016.

Transparent creator Jill Soloway also signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios to exclusively develop new television projects through the production company she runs with partner Andrew Sperling, basically positioning her as the supreme overlord of Amazon Prime television. Soloway will continue as showrunner and executive producer for Transparent, and Sperling has been promoted from co-executive producer to executive producer. “Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent,” Amazon Studios VP Roy Price says.

“I am so thrilled that I get to share more of the Pfeffermans’ story with the world,” Soloway adds. “We are all so in love with watching them change and grow. I am blown away by the creative freedom Amazon gives me and I can’t wait to reveal where this journey is going to take us.” In January, Jeffrey Tambor won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Maura Pfefferman, and Transparent, which also stars Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker, Rob Huebel, Judith Light, Carrie Brownstein, and Jay Duplass, won for best comedy.

Amazon has not yet announced a premiere date for season two.
