Amazon takes us back to the ‘60s in the Good Girls Revolt trailer
Amazon’s latest prestige drama, Good Girls Revolt, focuses on a group of women journalists in the 1960s who have grown weary of being denied the same opportunities as their male counterparts. So weary, in fact, that they decide to take legal action against their bosses at a weekly news magazine called News Of The Week—not to be confused with the real-world weekly news magazine Newsweek, which is where this actually all went down, as chronicled in Lynn Povich’s nonfiction book The Good Girls Revolt. There are many obvious comparisons to be drawn between this series and both Mad Men and The Newsroom, with the obvious difference being that this one does not revolve around the delicate ego of a middle-aged man-baby. Here, Peggy Olson and Maggie Jordan take the spotlight.
Created by Narcos writer-producer Dana Calvo, it stars Genevieve Angelson, Erin Drake, and Mad Men alum Anna Camp as the women who dare to buck the system; Chris Diamantopoulos and Jim Belushi appear as said system. Grace Gummer co-stars as none other than Nora Ephron, who worked at Newsweek in the ’60s and played a significant role in these events. Interestingly, Gummer is the second person in her family to play Ephron—her mother Meryl Streep, whom you might be familiar with, portrayed a slightly fictionalized version of the writer-filmmaker in the 1986 film Heartburn.
Good Girls Revolt begins streaming on Amazon Video On October 28.
