Amazon wants its own BoJack Horseman
Netflix ended up with a critical and popular hit on its hands with BoJack Horseman, an animated dark comedy about a self-destructive horse-human hybrid who’s alternately trying to revive his career and running it into the ground. Now Amazon wants to take a shot at adult situations with cuddly cartoons—the studio arm’s just ordered Amberville, a “darkly comedic animated crime show” that sounds like a mix between BoJack and The Godfather. The main character is Teddy Bear, who is dragged back into the criminal underworld to pull off an “impossible new job.” Teddy returns to his old haunts, where he’ll presumably encounter other animated animals, unsavory and otherwise.
Amberville comes from Chris McCoy, who’s worked on a couple of shorts prior to this, and Sausage Party producer and voice actor Conrad Vernon. The series will be produced by Annapurna, thereby reuniting Vernon with his Sausage Party partners.
