AMC is adapting another comic book from The Walking Dead creator, one without zombies this time

As a reward for all of his record-smashing ratings success with The Walking Dead and for finally getting those people off that damn farm, AMC has agreed to develop another show from creator Robert Kirkman, this time adapting his Image Comics/Skybound title Thief Of Thieves. Kirkman will reteam with current Walking Dead producer David Alpert and first-season producer Chic Eglee on the tale of a master thief living a double life (definitely a favorite AMC character trait) who tries to get out of the business while only stealing what has already been stolen, which is not such a good way to get out of the stealing business. That is still stealing, according to the definition of “stealing.”

Anyway, did Robert Kirkman offer a slightly grandiose quote that those who have long expressed displeasure with The Walking Dead can pick apart, then scoff at Kirkman’s presumptions about his abilities to deliver what he’s promising? Indeed he did: “Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief Of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals,” Kirkman said, suggesting that Thief could similarly have characters “showing their humanity” by talking about “humanity” bluntly and repeatedly.  Kirkman also believes that the show can reach “similar levels of success” as The Walking Dead, which, we don’t know—are there zombies in it? Then probably not.
