AMC is developing a show about Area 51, not that it exists or anything has ever happened there

With the cancellation of The Killing leaving a gap in its programming for shows about frustrating, convoluted mysteries, AMC has begun development on Area 51, a drama about the infamous military base where NOTHING HAS HAPPENED, EVER. The series draws from Annie Jacobsen's non-fiction book of the same name from last year, and concerns the lives of the various military personnel who allegedly worked there in the '50s and '60s, doing nothing of interest to you or anyone else, despite tales of alien sightings and other ludicrous conspiracy talk. Move along now. The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd is  executive-producing the project, which makes Area 51—after the Robert Kirkman-based Thief Of Thieves—the second series from that show's creative team to land on AMC's development slate, as it could really use something else to replace Breaking Bad and Mad Men soon, lest it be forced to go back to running Bubble Boy all the time.
