AMC kicks off the Story Of Science Fiction as Elementary returns

Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Monday, April 30. All times are Eastern.

Top pick

James Cameron’s Story Of Science Fiction (AMC, 10 p.m.): The creator of The Terminator franchise follows the evolution of science fiction in this six-part docuseries. Yes, this exploration means touching on his own movies, like Avatar, in addition to such formative works as Alien and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. But Cameron’s series will also delve into the genre’s literary origins, and track its move into the mainstream. The on-screen history lesson comes with tête-à-têtes with filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, and Christopher Nolan, as well as actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will Smith, Sigourney Weaver, and Zoe Saldana.

Elementary (CBS, 10 p.m.): The season-six premiere picks up right where we left off, with Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) trying to figure out the cause of his hallucinations. Sherlock executive producer Rob Doherty says this will create even more tension between Sherlock and Dr. Watson (Lucy Liu), which is really just par for the course. Genevieve Valentine is dropping in on the premiere episode, “An Infinite Capacity For Taking Pains.”

Supergirl (The CW, 8 p.m.)
