America denied the spectacle of a Mel Gibson trial

Mel Gibson, whose crazy bebop was all the rage before the kids moved on to Charlie Sheen’s spaced-out Sun Ra-esque fusion, has reached a plea deal in his impending criminal case, agreeing to a charge of simple battery against ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. The settlement means that Gibson will reportedly have to undergo counseling but will avoid any jail time, and more importantly, his case will not be dragged out even further with a trial—something that could have reminded everyone anew that, oh yeah, Mel Gibson said some crazy shit first, and also he punched a lady in the face and seems to really hate the Jews, so why did we ever stop talking about that to listen to Charlie Sheen? Gibson will now only have to appear in court on Friday when the bargain will be announced, just in time to remind everyone that The Beaver is premiering soon.
