America, relive the Mid90s with Jonah Hill and A24 for free
We’ve enjoyed watching Jonah Hill’s progression as an actor over the years, from a comedic bit player in The 40-Year-Old Virgin to an honest-to-goodness leading man. Now, Hill is embarking on a new venture: His directorial debut. That film, the coming-of-age tale/ode to ‘90s skater culture Mid90s, opens in select theaters tomorrow, October 19. And its distributor A24 is holding a series of free screenings in 24 cities across America to spread the word as it continues its theatrical rollout next week.
Those screenings will take place this coming Monday, October 22, in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington, DC. And—as you may have already guessed—we’re giving away 20 pairs of tickets to screenings in each one of those cities. To enter to win yours, follow this link, select your city, click “RSVP,” and enter some basic information. Details on the “where”s and “when”s of each screening will be on each city’s individual landing page.
In the meantime, you can listen to the film’s official Spotify playlist, a first of its kind for the music streaming service, below. In his review for The A.V. Club, Jesse Hassenger says, “ Mid90s is more than an exercise in refracting the nostalgic radiance of its cultural touchstones. It’s something both rougher and more tender, and still a little bit unformed.”
