American Animals director Bart Layton talks making the jump from documentary film

Based on a true story, American Animals follows four young friends (American Horror Story’s Evan Peters, Dunkirk’s Barry Keoghan, Glee’s Blake Jenner, and Jared Abrahamson) who plot to steal millions from Transylvania University in an ill-conceived attempt at rebelling against their suburban upbringings. At the premiere of the film, we spoke with director Bart Layton about making the jump from documentary to narrative film.
