American Crime Story renewed for season 3, will focus on Gianni Versace murder
Ryan Murphy’s creative residency at FX has just been extended, as Deadline reports the cable network’s ordered a third season of American Crime Story. The renewal looked to be a foregone conclusion after the acclaimed first installment in the crime anthology series, The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, practically swept the Emmys this year. But we suppose there was a chance that FX might’ve looked at Murphy’s plans for a Hurricane Katrina-centered second season and balked at a new installment of his other show. (No, not that one.)
American Crime Story’s third outing will focus on the 1997 murder of Gianni Versace in Miami. The iconic Italian designer was slain by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who’d been on a protracted killing spree since April of that year. Eight days after killing Versace, Cunanan committed suicide before he could be captured by Miami Dade police. The 10-episode Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story will be based in part on Maureen Orth’s Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, And The Largest Failed Manhunt In U.S. History.
