American Gigolo is also becoming a TV show

If you’ve ever thought the grimy, desolate tone and fatalist worldview of Paul Schrader’s films would be best experienced on a weekly basis, we’ve got good news for you. Variety reports that Paramount Television is readying a TV adaptation of American Gigolo, the 1980 movie that gave Richard Gere his breakout leading role, with the film’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The movie version stars Richard Gere as an L.A. male escort who’s framed for murder, becoming increasingly unhinged as he works to prove his innocence and get to the bottom of the conspiracy that implicated him. (Contrary to popular belief, it does not take place in the same shared universe as Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo—though it does join a shared TV universe increasingly brimming with movie adaptations, from the American Gigolo-esque The Girlfriend Experience to School Of Rock to Hitch.
