Amy Adams to play character that is definitely Janis Joplin, not a 30 Rock reference

In a testimony to the enduring brilliance of 30 Rock, Jackie Jormp-Jomp jokes are being littered around the Internet like so many discarded bottles of Southern Comfort today as Amy Adams signs on to play Janis Joplin.

Tentatively titled Get It While You Can, the project has been stumbling around Hollywood for a decade now, with directors including Lee Daniels, City Of God’s Fernando Meirelles, and Catherine Hardwicke attached at various points to the biopic about the hippie icon’s bluesy rise and boozy fall. Adams herself has been eyeing the project for over four years, presumably because she likes winning awards and hates wearing bras. At the moment, Wild and Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallee is in talks to direct.

But in an intriguingly Jormp-Jomp-ian twist, a rival biopic starring Nina Arianda is apparently still happening. (In what is probably a complete coincidence, Arianda once guest starred on an episode of 30 Rock as pizza heiress Zarina Sbarro.) Which of the two actresses will end up performing at Woodstocks is not clear at this point, but last we checked, the Arianda biopic claimed to have rights to 21 of Joplin’s songs while Deadline simply says that Adams “plans to sing Joplin’s tunes,” and should maybe avoid Wikipedia for a while.
