Amy Adams will star in the TV version of Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects

A TV adaptation of Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s first novel, Sharp Objects, has been in the works in Hollywood for a few years now, with Buffy The Vampire Slayer writer and UnREAL co-creator Marti Noxon attached to executive produce. Now, Variety is reporting that the series has taken a huge step forward in its efforts to make it onto TV screens, having signed on multiple Oscar nominee Amy Adams in a starring role.

Adams will play the novel’s protagonist, reporter Camille Preaker, who’s forced to return to her hometown in order to cover the actions of a local serial killer. While there, she’ll also have to contend with all sorts of psychological damage, past and present, including her controlling mother, a history of self-harm that led to a recent stint in a psychiatric hospital, and a lot of comparisons to Rosamund Pike.

Sharp Objects will be Adams’ first starring role in a TV show; although she was once a regular one-episode sight on shows like Buffy, That ’70s Show, and The Office, she’s since successfully completed the transition into Amy Adams, Movie Star. Presumably, though, that status should help lure the networks in, as Noxon attempts to secure a home for the planned adaptation, while also ensuring executives that she’s got the hottest of the many Flynn adaptations currently floating around.
