Amy Landecker joins the cast of Doctor Strange
Although it took a while to suss out exactly who would portray the Sorcerer Supreme in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange movie, Benedict Cumberbatch seems to be sitting pretty in the role. Reports were more forthcoming about the rest of the cast, including Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor as The Ancient One and Baron Mordo, respectively. But there’s still plenty of mystery surrounding the production: Rachel McAdams could show up as Clea or Night Nurse, and Mads Mikkelsen is playing an unknown villain. And now The Wrap reports that Amy Landecker has also signed on in an as-yet-unknown role.
Landecker’s hot off an Emmy nomination for Transparent, which returns for a second season on December 11. The film will see her reunited with her A Serious Man co-star Michael Stuhlbarg, who’s playing Nicodemus West, Dr. Strange’s contemporary and possible rival. And since speculation is practically a prerequisite for this kind of casting news, we’ll guess that she’s playing either Dr. Strange’s assistant (and later, director of his metaphysical institute) Sara Wolfe or possibly Morgana Blessing, an author whose interest in the occult could pique Strange’s interest in her.
