Adult Swim is ready to pack itself more full of Debras than an Everybody Loves Raymond cosplay competition, issuing a press release today announcing that it’s teaming up with Amy Poehler’s production company Paper Kite for a live-action series about deranged housewives titled Three Busy Debras.
Sandy Honig, Mitra Jouhari, and Alyssa Stonoha created the series, and will serve as its stars and executive producers, presumably lending their talents to a Debra apiece. Anna Dokoza, recently of Baskets, will direct and executive produce, too (as will Poehler and Paper Kite partner Kim Lessing).
It’s worth noting that this is one of, if not the, first woman-created series to get a pick-up order from Adult Swim, which has been frequently criticized for its bro-focused hiring practices. The show will also be one of the network’s relatively few live-action comedies, and will focus on “three disturbed housewives and their fellow residents of an affluent Connecticut suburb that exists outside of reality as we know it.”
