Amy Ryan joins HBO's In Treatment
Oscar-nominated actress Amy Ryan is returning to a regular TV series role, but it’s not on The Office—at least, not yet: Ryan is set to take over as Gabriel Byrne’s new (fictional) therapist on HBO’s In Treatment, the show that captures all the thrill-a-minute action of people talking about their problems and occasionally crying or yelling. The upcoming third season will see the departure of Byrne’s regular confidant played by Dianne Wiest, who already racked up her Emmy in 2008, so thanks, and the addition of Ryan to the cast comes after the announcement that Debra Winger will also be joining the show as one of Byrne’s patients, playing “a formerly big star in an anxiety crisis about her career” that’s certainly not autobiographical. Ryan's casting marks her first return to HBO since those years she spent putting up with McNulty's shit on The Wire.
