Amy Schumer is getting an HBO special, Chris Rock will direct

It’s pretty easy to see that Amy Schumer’s comedy career has been blowing up lately. Just this year, she’s already hosted the MTV Movie Awards, had her Comedy Central show renewed for a fourth season, had a bunch of sketches from her show go viral, and, oh yeah, Time declared her one of the 100 most influential people in the whole world. Having accomplishing all of that, Schumer has now apparently checked off all of the boxes needed in order to get attention from HBO, as Variety is reporting that the network has just decided to give Schumer a comedy special. This will be her first special on HBO, and she’s pulling in Chris Rock to direct it.

The special is going to be taped on May 29 at New York’s Apollo Theater, and it’ll air on HBO at some point later this year. Also, HBO’s Michael Lombardo says that he hopes “[Schumer’s] first HBO special marks the start of a long and beautiful relationship,” so—assuming this one goes well—it sounds she’ll almost certainly be asked back to do some more.
