Amy Schumer is no longer a Barbie girl
Variety reports that life in plastic is no longer quite so fantastic, as comedian Amy Schumer has dropped out of her lead role in Sony’s upcoming live-action Barbie movie. Schumer left the project due to a scheduling conflict with the promotional tour for her upcoming Goldie Hawn comedy Snatched. Shockingly, the Barbie movie has a lot of licensing deals and marketing partners attached to it, and thus there was no way to change the movie’s filming dates to accommodate Schumer’s busy schedule.
“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,” Schumer said in a statement. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.” The film was set to star Schumer as an unconventional Barbie who gets booted out of her plastic kingdom and into the real world for the crime of not fitting in. Diablo Cody worked on the script, as did Schumer herself; it remains to be seen whether the frequently foul-mouthed comedian’s script additions will stick around, now that she’s no longer attached to give them voice.
