Amy Schumer proves unstoppable, signs massive book deal
After revitalizing the rom-com with Trainwreck, teaming up with Jennifer Lawrence to write another movie, dancing on Billy Joel’s piano, and winning an Emmy for her TV show, it’s not that surprising that Amy Schumer is planning to write a book too. What is surprising is the massive multi-million dollar deal she just signed for it: According to Entertainment Weekly, Schumer’s book sold for $8-$10 million at auction last week.
Schumer’s camp has yet to release an official statement, so it’s not yet known which publishing house snagged the book. That information will likely be released soon, along with more details about the book itself. (Publishers Weekly calls it an “essay collection” that will explore Schumer’s childhood, comedy career, family, and feminism.)
The publishing company that bought the book obviously expects a big return on its investment. For comparison, Aziz Ansari and Lena Dunham were both considered massively successful when they inked book deals for about $3.5 million, and even the combined talents of Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak raked in only about $7.5 million for their upcoming book. For her part, Schumer’s success lies somewhere between the $8 million J.K. Rowling reportedly got for The Casual Vacancy and the $15 million Bill Clinton earned for My Life in 2004.
