Amy Schumer's pregnancy announcement contains a surprise
Outside of getting the world’s most famous, apolitical pop star to share an endorsement, there’s really no easy way to get potential voters registered. As such, activists and celebrities have had to get creative in advance of next month’s midterm elections. Last week, for example, a link promising details behind the breakup of Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson went viral, though anyone who clicked on it found themselves routed to Vote.org’s registration page. You need to wrap the vegetables in candy, as it were, and that’s exactly what comedian Amy Schumer did when she shared the news of her impending pregnancy.
It began with an Instagram post on Schumer’s account, one featuring her and husband Chris Fischer’s heads pasted on the bodies of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who recently announced a child of their own. That post directed fans to the page of journalist Jessica Yellin. There, you’ll find a Notes app screenshot with Schumer’s pregnancy announcement…buried far below her recommendations for midterm voting.
See it below.
Schumer, if you’re unaware, is the cousin of Senate minority leader (and Donald Trump punching bag) Chuck Schumer, with whom she’s previously advocated for tighter gun laws. She was arrested earlier this month for protesting the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
“Chris and I are thrilled and almost positive he’s the father. I look forward to competing with Markle every step of the way,” Schumer said in a brief statement to The Los Angeles Times on Monday.
Don’t expect to hear much baby news beyond that, at least not when there’s an election on the horizon.
