Amy Sedaris is getting her own TruTV show

TruTV has built a reputation as a place where eclectic comedy voices like Billy Eichner and Adam Conover can work out their obsessions—shouting about Meryl Streep and spouting unpleasant facts and minutiae, respectively—in front of a comedy-seeking audience. Now, the network has announced that it’ll be tapping into the rich inner world and talents of cult comedy favorite and renegade homemaker Amy Sedaris, too.

Sedaris—a playwright, author, and actress, who will nevertheless always be Strangers With Candy’s perpetual freshman Jerri Blank in our hearts—will star in a ten-episode series that seeks to smash together the worlds of variety, talk, and hospitality shows. Each episode of the untitled series will tackle a single topic—like “Wood!’ “Fish!” and “Grieving!”—and allow Sedaris to show the world the proper way to handle them. The series will tap into Sedaris’ skills as “a crafter, chef, baker and hostess,” plus her more generalized talents as a weird and interesting comic voice.

“I’ve been doing this show in my head for years. It will be terrific to get it on TV so I can free up some wiggle room up in my skull,” said Sedaris, who recently had a scene-stealing turn on The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and whose books include I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence and Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People.
