Amy Sherman-Palladino says she’s “not going to get into a pissing match” with Shonda Rhimes, does the opposite

A television writer smackdown commenced today when Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of the hyper-literate, bubbly Gilmore Girls and the new ABC Family series Bunheads, defended herself against Grey’s Anatomy producer Shonda Rhimes. Last week, Rhimes tweeted her dismay at the lack of diversity in Bunheads, protesting “You couldn’t cast even ONE young dancer of color so I could feel good about my kid watching this show?” Sherman-Palladino addressed Rhimes’ comment on the talk show Media Matters: “I’m not going to get into a pissing match with Shonda Rhimes because she’s got like 15,000 shows. She’s doing just fine for herself,” Sherman-Palladino noted. Nonetheless, she made some not-so-subtle hints that Rhimes was working against diversity by attacking a fellow lady in the television business. “I wouldn’t go after another woman,” Sherman-Palladino said. “I’ve always felt that women have never supported—in a general sense—women to the level that they should.” Regarding Rhimes’ criticism, Sherman-Palladino protested that she doesn’t do “message shows.” The dust-up could be inspiring, though.
