An 8-bit Kill Bill just makes so much sense
Who loves 8-bit? The Internet, that’s who. And although Quentin Tarantino is a little old to have a nostalgia boner for old-school Nintendo games, interpreting Kill Bill as one makes a lot of sense. After all, in the movie(s), The Bride has a series of missions to complete, and a bunch of faceless minions to slaughter on her way to fighting each “boss” of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.
Now, 10 years after the release of Kill Bill: Vol. 2, CineFix has honored the films by including them in its “8-bit Cinema” series, which reimagines movies both obvious (Kick-Ass, Thor) and counterintuitive (Mean Girls, The Shining) as old-school video games. This interpretation of Kill Bill (the video covers both volumes) deviates from the films at certain points—the fights with Vernita Green and O-Ren Ishii are presented out of order, for example—but other details, like the 5-Point-Palm combo at the end, are faithfully rendered. By the time a MIDI version of “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” begins to play over the credits, all nitpicking cinema-nerd sins are forgiven, except one—that this is a YouTube video, not a real, playable video game. Get on it, Capcom!
