An Alien-inspired H.R. Giger bar may be coming to America soon

For those who have long lamented that their local watering hole lacks a certain, nightmarish fusion of gruesome anatomical mutation and twisted machinery—or alternately, that it could use just a smidge more—you may soon have a new favorite pub. Alien designer H.R. Giger is in talks to bring the “biomechanical” décor of his famous Giger Bars in Chur and Gruyeres, Switzerland, to the U.S., opening a new American hotspot that evokes the welcoming coldness of an extraterrestrial womb. The plan hails from Andy Davies, who’s currently developing his own Sci-Fi Hotel, “an architectural and stylistic celebration of science-fiction” that will feature sci-fi-inspired design and amenities—among them the Giger Bar, which he’s developing in cooperation with Giger himself.

While Davies doesn’t yet know where the Sci-Fi Hotel will end up—early contenders are Seattle, New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Chicago, with New Mexico’s Spaceport USA close behind—he’s already certain that the Giger Bar will be part of it, hoping this American edition will outlast the now-departed, Giger-designed VIP room at New York’s Limelight, at least. He also knows that he wants the U.S. Giger Bar to be every bit as immersive as its Switzerland forebears, where everything from the floor to the furniture to the ceiling is sculpted from what appears to be the wrenched and jutting backbones of hideous beasts.

Davies expects to have a location for the hotel and bar nailed down in the next couple of months, so you’ll soon know when and where you can experience that sort of thing for yourself. In the meantime, the impatient should maybe try doing acid with some salvia. [CNet via /Film]
