An animated feature about Anne Frank is in the works

Surprisingly, there’s really only been one big-screen adaptation of The Diary Of Anne Frank,  a 1959 live-action movie that starred Millie Perkins in the titular role. But that’ll soon change with an animated feature based on Frank’s story from Oscar-nominated director Ari Folman (Waltz With Bashir), co-produced by the Belgium-based Purple Whale Films, that will hopefully look a lot more like Persepolis than Frozen. As part of the film's development, Folman and the rest of the crew have been given access to all the archives of the Anne Frank Fonds (or Foundation), which was established by Frank’s father, Otto, in 1963.

Folman’s most recent work is The Congress, a Hollywood satire starring Robin Wright that just recently won a European Film Award for best animated feature. Waltz With Bashir, which came out in 2008, told Folman’s own story of struggle during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon.
