An animated Michael Jackson Halloween special is in the works

Michael Jackson’s estate can only release so many posthumous albums before diluting his brand, so it has now come up with a new way to make money off of Jackson’s career and/or honor his legacy. According to Billboard, Jackson’s estate has teamed up with CBS for an animated Halloween special that will feature Jackson’s music and the voices of a number of CBS stars including Jim Parsons, Brad Garrett, Christine Baranski, Alan Cumming, and Lucy Liu.

Titled Michael Jackson’s Halloween, the hour-long special is about “millennials” named Vincent and Victoria (played by Lucas Till and Kiersey Clemons) who stumble into a spooky hotel at 777 Jackson Street on Halloween night. After that they go on an “unexpected, magical adventure of personal discovery, culminating in a spectacular dance finale featuring an animated Jackson.” In other words, it’s like Space Channel 5, but you don’t have to hook up your Dreamcast or explain this reference to anyone.

Billboard says the special will air “sometime this fall,” but discerning a more specific date seems practically impossible.
