An extended Comic-Con trailer raises a glass to the Suicide Squad
The premiere of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is less than two weeks away, but Warner Bros. still had a few new things in store for the crowd assembled for the company’s Comic-Con panel this afternoon in San Diego. After debuting the first Wonder Woman trailer and a sneak peek at Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, the company debuted an extended trailer for Suicide Squad designed specifically for the con that gives us a little better idea of what’s actually going to, y’know, happen in the movie. In the trailer, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller makes Biblical references that imply that the crew will be battling some version of Goliath—or in the words of Will Smith’s Deadshot, “we’re going to the swirling ring of trash in the sky.” How The Joker factors into all of this is still (quite deliberately, one assumes) unclear.
Cut to the beat of Rick Ross and Skrillex’s “Purple Lamborghini” from the film’s soundtrack, the trailer builds to a flashy montage culminating with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn beating the shit out of some sort of ash monster with a baseball bat. Add Smith delivering those same kind of irreverent quips that made him an action star in the ‘90s, and you’ve got reason to be optimistic for Suicide Squad’s debut on August 5.
