And now Animal House is headed to Broadway with music from the Barenaked Ladies

Promising to tease out all the musical motifs and commemorative sweatshirts unexplored in the original film, Universal has revealed plans to bring Animal House to Broadway—just the latest in an increasingly long line of movie-to-musical adaptations that has promised to turn the Great White Way into a living, singing, dancing recreation of your basic cable package. The show will be directed and choreographed by The Book Of Mormon’s Casey Nicholaw with a libretto from Michael Mitnick, with scoring duties falling to the Barenaked Ladies—the Canadian pop group who’s the perfect match for the film’s sensibilities, in the sense that they’ve spent years playing in the background while drunk fraternity dudes throw up. Universal released the announcement to mark the 30th anniversary of John Belushi’s death, after enough time had passed for them to feel confident that he’d never hear about it.
