Notes
-I've seen a lot of griping that this wasn't the best year to expand the Best Picture category to 10, but I know that a lot of my personal favorites from '09 weren't nominated, and I'm betting that's true of those complaining, too. Even if the Academy had stuck with five nominees, I can pretty much guarantee it would've been a mixed bag.
-I'm not sure what this portends, but this biggest cheers in the room during the nomination announcements were for The Blind Side. I'm going to assume those were all from E! reporters.
-I'm not going to knock The Secret Of Kells for making the Best Animated Feature list because I haven't seen it. I did have high hopes for Ponyo though.
-People were big on collaboration this year, especially in the documentary and shorts categories. I know this because I just typed in all their names.
-The Crazy Heart soundtrack is one of Amazon's $5 MP3 deals this month. It's worth five bucks, that's for sure.
–A Prophet was one of the best movies I saw at Toronto last fall; glad to see it get a nomination.
-I didn't get to see the animated short "Logorama" in Sundance, but it stirred up a lot of buzz. Could be down to that and the Wallace & Gromit short for the win.
-In the major categories, I'd say the front-runners are Avatar, Bridges, Streep, Waltz, Mo'Nique and Bigelow. (Though the Best Picture category's a tough one to call.) What are the most likely upsets?
