Andrew McCarthy gets why Pretty In Pink still resonates

He’s now a TV director and an award-winning travel writer, but Andrew McCarthy knows what his most memorable film role is, even 30 years later. On the book tour for his latest effort, YA novel Just Fly Away, he stopped by The A.V. Club, just blocks away from the site of his first movie, and talked about the early years of his career. McCarthy also reveals how he got his role in Pretty In Pink and that he understands why his character Blane is the romantic ideal for girls who grew up on that movie. Assistant editor Gwen Ihnat, who was one of those girls, tries to keep it together during her talk with the actor.
