Angelina Jolie is ready for some evil in the teaser for Maleficent sequel
Pretty much everything you need to know about Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil—the sequel to Disney’s 2014 live-action movie about the villain from Sleeping Beauty—is that this trailer includes the line “this is no fairy tale.” It indicates that this is a darker story than most Disney movies, which is to be expected since it’s about a villain, but it also means that this won’t necessarily follow tired fairy tale tropes about simplistic views of good guys and bad guys. Of course, it’s also a big, distracting cliché, and it’s the sort of phrase that has been said in and around stories like this ever since there were stories like this, so anyone who was left unimpressed by star Angelina Jolie’s last turn as the pointy witch probably won’t be swayed here. But hey, Michelle Pfeiffer is here!
Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil was directed by Joachim Rønning, and it’ll be in theaters on October 18.
