Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez to star in gender-swapped Overboard remake
According to Deadline, Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez have signed on to star in a gender-swapped remake of the 1987 Garry Marshall movie Overboard. The original starred Goldie Hawn as an heiress who falls off her boat and gets rescued by Kurt Russell, who then convinces the amnesiac heiress that they’re married. The concept is a little strange in retrospect, and it hasn’t aged all that well, but this remake should make the politics a little less creepy by switching the roles around. In the remake, Derbez will play “a spoiled playboy from one of Mexico’s wealthiest families” who falls off of his yacht and meets a “working-class single mom” (Faris) who convinces him that they’re married.
Faris currently stars on the CBS comedy Mom, and Derbez is the writer, director, and star of the hit Mexican comedy Instructions Not Included.
