Annabelle director to helm comic adaptation that sounds a lot like Thinner and It Follows
Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox has tapped Annabelle director John R. Leonetti to helm an adaptation of Tag, a comics miniseries by DC Comics writer Keith Giffen and Kody Chamberlain (BloodRayne, Sweets). Fox bought the rights to the BOOM! Studios title and has ordered a script from Stephanie writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.
In the comic, an everyday man begins to waste away after being “tagged” by a stranger on the street. He must decide whether to let himself rot or save his own life by passing it along to some other unsuspecting person. It’s a dilemma as old as time—or as old as the movies Thinner, The Ring, and It Follows, at least.
The film is reportedly going the “psychological thriller with supernatural elements” route and will include a female protagonist. It’s unclear if this means that the cursed man will become a cursed woman for the movie, or if there will be two people running around town playing the most vicious game of It ever.
