Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista to play a pair of wedding stingers in new action comedy

Marriage is a trap, says the worst guy you know. But in 2005, two FBI agents posed as a couple in an elaborate sting operation, one that culminated in a staged wedding. When the guests checked in to the “ceremony”—which was held on a yacht off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey—they were arrested. Those guests, some of whom came from as far away as China, were members of an international smuggling ring.

It’s honestly hard to believe that Hollywood hasn’t already made this into a film or limited series a few times over. But today, at least the first iteration is set. Deadline reports that Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista will star as the leads in Wedding Sting. Of course, there will be some liberties taken with the tale; the outlet reports that the story will focus on two agents with very different strategies who are forced to cohabitate but eventually earn a begrudging respect for one another. Let us guess: Hathaway will be the competent, intelligent, level-headed agent, while Bautista will be the shoot first, ask questions later meathead?

The project comes from Jonathan Tropper, who previously wrote the film This Is Where I Leave You and created the series Banshee, Warrior, and the forthcoming Your Friends And Neighbors. Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO is producing the film for Amazon MGM Studios.
