Anne Hathaway may star in the Sesame Street movie
A Sesame Street movie is an inevitability in this age of IP, and, if we’re being honest, we are kind of overdue for a Follow That Bird sequel. Now, Collider reports that we’re one step closer to it becoming a reality, with Warner Bros. reportedly eyeing Anne Hathaway for a leading role. She’s got experience, after all, having previously traded bars with Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus back in 2007.
Hathaway’s voice, which scored her an Oscar for Les Misérables, is key, as the project is apparently being developed as a musical. Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel is slated to direct the movie, and The Kings of Summer writer Chris Galletta penned the most recent draft.
Plot details are scarce, but Collider notes that Hathaway is “circling the role of Sally, which happens to be the name of the girl who appeared on the very first episode of the show, wherein longtime resident Gordon Robinson gives Sally a tour of Sesame Street and introduces her to Muppet characters such as Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.”
Maybe she’ll also stumble upon the wedding of Bert and Ernie, who are definitely a couple.
