Annette Bening joins Captain Marvel

We’ve got some more exciting news about the Captain Marvel movie today, which you can probably just toss in a big pile next to all the other exciting news that’s come out about the Captain Marvel movie: Variety reports that Annette Benning is joining the film’s already star-packed cast, which includes Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, and Brie Larson as superpowered do-gooder Carol Danvers herself.

It’s not clear what role Bening will take, although it’s rumored that she’ll be playing Carol’s mom. Who knows, though, since Captain Marvel is the focus of a lot of MCU-related speculation at the moment; not only will it be the franchise’s first female-led superhero movie, but it also got a massive Hail Mary pass from last month’s blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, which asked fans to sit through, roughly, 7,000,000 minutes of end credits in order to get the merest peek at her logo. (The film itself will take place in the 1990s, meanwhile, freeing it from having to directly interact with the previous movie’s status quo-blasting finale.)

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and is currently scheduled for a March 8, 2019 release.
