Another musical scene will turn up on the Guardians Of The Galaxy Blu-ray

We apparently haven’t heard everything from Awesome Mix Vol. 1, the enormously successful mixtape that drives much of the action and heart of this summer’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. According to director James Gunn, there’s at least one track that was cut from the movie (and the tape’s real-world version), appearing only in a deleted scene set for the movie’s eventual Blu-ray release. Peter Quill and his cohorts aren’t the ones dancing to Pilot’s 1974 hit single “Magic,” though. Instead, it’s the prison guard (played by Welsh stuntman Spencer Wilding) who confiscates Quill’s beloved Sony TPS-L2 Walkman after the semi-heroic rogue is locked away in the Kyln.

In a post on his Facebook page, Gunn went into detail on the scene:

“He danced through the prison listening to Quill’s Walkman (specifically, ‘Magic’ by Pilot). We cut the scene for many reasons, but it was awesome and hilarious and Spence more than deserved his rarely-given Play-Doh (and, yes, before you ask me a thousand times below, it WILL be on the Blu-ray outtakes, and no I will not tell you the release date – you can go see the movie again! It’s still out!)”

The Play-Doh in question was Gunn’s standard reward to cast and crew who went above and beyond the call of duty on set, because there can be no aspect of Guardians that is not borderline offensive in its effort to charm.
