Another Sherlock Holmes movie is already in the works
Utterly spoiling the ending of December’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows by revealing that Robert Downey Jr.’s titular detective apparently doesn’t die, Warner Bros. has already begun prepping a third film in the series. The studio is reportedly in talks to bring aboard screenwriter Drew Pearce, currently working on Iron Man 3, and thus already familiar with crafting Downey Jr.’s half-mumbled witticisms. It’s an early show of confidence in the second film, obviously, one that all but guarantees America will spend another Christmas watching Downey Jr. and Jude Law’s will-they-or-won’t-they homoerotic sparring play out against a steampunk backdrop. And it also suggests that Sherlock Holmes wins his upcoming game of shadows, so he must have had the best shadow. “I gravely underestimated your shadow, Mr. Holmes,” Moriarty probably says. “Well, mmmumblebarglefargle shadows are always marginfarginmumble, didn’t you know?” Holmes replies cuttingly.
