Anson Mount bolts from Marvel's Inhumans to Star Trek: Discovery
Though the fate of Marvel’s Inhumans remains unknown, Anson Mount isn’t leaving things to chance—Variety reports the once-and-possibly-but-not-likely-future Black Bolt has just joined the cast of Star Trek: Discovery for season two.
The first season of Discovery ended with Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the rest of the crew receiving a distress call from the Enterprise, which, given the timeline of the CBS All Access series, has Christopher Pike in the captain’s chair. Ahead of the season finale, showrunners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts teased more direct allusions to The Original Series, which we now see extend into the new season. Mount is taking over the role of Captain Pike from Jeffrey Hunter (Bruce Greenwood has also portrayed the character, but that was in the Kelvin timeline), who played the former Enterprise captain in the original pilot for Gene Roddenberry’s flagship series, as well as the classic two-parter, “The Menagerie.”
The Hell On Wheels alum had to work on his nonverbal communication for Inhumans, going so far as to develop his own sign language to play Black Bolt, who mostly opts not to speak because his powerful voice can level buildings. But he’ll be playing a pre-delta-rays Pike, which means he’ll have to dredge up whatever charm he had in his previous series regular role—that, or find another giant dog to distract from an underwhelming performance.
