Antoine Fuqua drops out of the Scarface remake

It’s a good night for high-profile directors to drop out of high-profile projects. About an hour after news came out that Ben Affleck would no longer be directing The Batman, Variety is reporting that Antoine Fuqua has dropped out of directing Universal’s Scarface remake. Apparently, Sony and Denzel Washington are very eager to get to work on a sequel to The Equalizer, and Fuqua didn’t have room in his schedule for both projects.

Rogue One’s Diego Luna is expected to star, with Universal already scheduling meetings with directors so production—which was supposed to start in the spring—won’t be impacted too much.
