APB (Fox, 9 p.m.): Is it ballsy to title a series premiere “Hard Reset?” Maybe, but it’s pretty ballsy for Fox to have a show about a billionaire taking over a Chicago police precinct, especially when Dick Wolf has no say in it. “After tech billionaire Gideon Reeves (Justin Kirk) witnesses his best friend’s murder, he takes charge of Chicago’s troubled 13th District and reboots it as a technically innovative police force, challenging the district to rethink everything about the way they fight crime.” APB also stars Ernie Hudson as the no-nonsense Captain, but you’ve got to imagine Justin Kirk is all about the nonsense. Especially with a character name like “Gideon Reeves.”
Scorpion (CBS, 10 p.m.): Your friendly neighborhood What’s On Tonight contributor always loves when she can check in on how Team Scorpion has gotten itself into dire straits, but this week, the draw to make Scorpion top pick completely came down to the episode title: “Sharknerdo.” Because it’s like Sharknado… but with nerds. And that is Scorpion at its title finest. But what about the episode itself? “Team Scorpion’s job to find sunken treasure goes awry when Walter and Paige’s boat explodes”—there it is!—”leaving them lost in the middle of the Pacific Ocean surrounded by sharks.” Like sands through the hourglass, so are the missions of Team Scorpion.
Solitary: Inside Red Onion State Prison (HBO, 10 p.m.): All right, HBO. Time for your documentary, we suppose. “Examining what solitary confinement is like at a supermax state prison in Virginia. Interviews with inmates reveal how they came to be locked up in solitary confinement, and how they struggle to maintain their sanity in such an isolated existence.” Is this the appropriate time to also suggest Rectify for people who are interested in this documentary? When it comes to top picks, it’s always the right time to suggest Rectify.
Premieres and finales
24: Legacy (Fox, 8 p.m.): The next new episode of 24: Legacy just so happens to be a time slot premiere for the series. It’s also about the exciting (maybe?) time frame of “1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.”: “When Ben Grimes demands money in exchange for the list he seized from a safe box in Khalid’s compound, Carter must go back to his roots to help obtain the money.” It’s always great when a brand new character the audience has yet to really latch onto goes back to their roots.
Superior Donuts (CBS, 9 p.m.): The time slot premiere of Superior Donuts asks “What’s The Big Idea?” The answer? “When Franco’s creative new donut flavors become bestsellers, Arthur tries to prove he’s still relevant by coming up with a unique one of his own.” That’s the big idea—new donut flavors. New donut flavors and competition over them, to be exact. Hopefully Arthur succeeds in proving his relevancy. Don’t want to have a 2 Broke Dudes situation, do we?
Gender Revolution: A Journey With Katie Couric (NatGeo, 9 p.m.): HBO’s not the only cable network with documentaries, and NatGeo is ready to prove it. “In this two-hour documentary, Katie Couric sets out to explore the rapidly evolving complexities of gender identity.”
Leave It To Stevie (VH1, 9 p.m.): With the first season finale of Leave It To Stevie airing tonight, we think we should give everyone this advice: Don’t.
2 Broke Girls (CBS, 9:30 p.m.): 2 Broke Girls moves to a new time slot tonight with “And The Turtle Sense.” “Caroline is excited to go out on her first date with Bobby (Christopher Gorham), but she has nervous jitters when she realizes Max will be alone and in charge of the dessert bar for the first time.” We supposed she should be worried: If Max can’t take care of the dessert bar, they just might be two broke girls forever. (What is “the turtle sense?” Apparently you must watch this to find out.)
Pawn Star$ (History Channel, 10 p.m.): The 18th season finale airs tonight, with “Under Pressure.” That’s a big deal. And by big deal, we’re talking solely about the episode title. Hit it:
Suddenly Rich (TLC, 10 p.m.): TLC’s latest series is “Going Viral.” Well, that’s what the episode title says. Here’s more detail: “A series profiling individuals whose unexpected monetary gains changed their lives forever begins with a young couple’s ‘golden anniversary’; and a teen bagging groceries.” Suddenly Rich certainly makes perfect sense as a series title.
Fameless (TruTV, 10 p.m.): Fameless’ second season ends tonight in the place where it all ends, every night: “Tornado Alley.” (These episode titles tonight, y’all.) In the finale, “a host and a wannabe crime fighter are duped.” You know—little Tornado Alley things.
