Apple’s AirPods are finally available, unless you’ve somehow lost them already
Earlier this year, Apple announced a courageous and revolutionary step forward in headphone technology called “AirPods.” Essentially, they’re wireless earbuds that make you look like a crazy person who jammed enormous cotton swabs in your ears, but they’re made by Apple so they’re cool. Back in October, Apple had to delay the launch of the AirPods after determining that they weren’t quite courageous enough, but now the little things are finally available for purchase on Apple’s website for the low, low price of $159. (For comparison, Apple is selling traditional earbuds with a cord and stuff for a whopping $29, which is a pretty outrageous price for something that doesn’t even not have any wires.)
So what do you get for that unbeatable price? Well, in addition to the things that go in your ears, you get one of those little boxes of dental floss and a charging cable. Though the use of the cable may not seem immediately clear, Apple has actually included it so you can immediately throw it away in a symbolic gesture that expresses your disgust for bullshit cords and wires.
Unfortunately, there is a catch. According to USA Today, these AirPods have the momentum of a runaway freight train, so they’re already on backorder for at least six weeks. That means the only way you’ll be able to get a set any sooner is by camping out in front of an Apple Store or some other retailer and praying that the tech gods take pity on you. They probably won’t, but it’s worth a try.
