Apples In Stereo sign to Elijah Wood's record label

Simian Records, a label started last year by actor and professed music afficionado Elijah Wood, will get an indie-cred-laced start in February with its first release, the Apples In Stereo's New Magnetic Wonder, the band's fifth LP. In a press release, Wood says he's "been a fan of the Apples for years." The writer of the press release itself outdoes Wood for eloquence, though: "This is perfect music for Jeff Lynne and Brian Wilson to make out to." Or Sam and Frodo?

Nothing's available to stream yet, but the album spans 24 tracks and, as is many an Elephant Six band's wont, a ton of random guest musicians, including an unspecified "London audience" credited with "anger due to Apples' overly-loud guitars."

For now, Simian doesn't have much of a Web presence: Its URL redirects to AIS' page on Yep Roc Records, which will co-release the album long with Elephant Six and RedEye Distribution.
